About Cut'n Loose
I, Jamie Burns, grew up caring for cattle and horses, and the Aussie was a part of that life.  I showed paint horses and helped my father with his 30 head cow-calf; 50-60 stocker calf operation.  That was his hobby.  His main profession is Veterinarian.  He still runs a small animal Hospital in San Antonio.   I guess I followed in his footsteps by attending Sul Ross State to study Animal Health Technology and then on to Texas A & M to work in Small Animal Surgery.

Misty was my first Aussie and the beginning of my commitment to this working breed.  In 1978, she was bought at a horse show for $50.00.   Misty had all the characteristics that we still find in today's working aussie.  They are willing to do whatever the situation calls for, whether it is hard at work or hard at play.  I can't imagine a house without dog hair to vacuum or muddy paws to clean.   This is the only breed for me.   Besides, they can keep up with my high energy.   In 1986, I met my husband Steve.   He just happened to come with an Aussie!  Burn's Silver Red Spur, CD.   I started showing in obedience at that time.   Leaving the horses behind.

I have always admired the ability of a dog to move an animal 4x its own weight.  I used Misty on our cattle.   Crossbreds mostly, Brahma, Angus, Longhorns, and a little Holstein in there for milk production.  My goals with my dogs have not changed.   I still want physically and mentally sound working stockdogs that can handle cattle.   In doing so, I know I must preserve the working Australian Shepherd.   If you chose to buy a stock dog,  make sure it comes from working dogs.  See 'em work.  Get guarantees.  There are many folks out there that will tell you the dogs have instinct,  but have never worked the type of stock you would be purchasing the dog for.  This is a lifetime commitment.   Research what you want.

On most weekends you will find us either at a dog trial or giving lessons to those that decided to "tackle" the training of some very willing stockdogs. Lessons and individual training are both available.

It really does snow in Texas!
